contemporary architecture for a rural context
We design contemporary, sustainable buildings, to meet our clients’ needs. We strive to exceed expectations, finding elegant and energy efficient solutions - architecture which responds sensitively to its setting and meets the practical challenges of a beautiful but unforgiving environment.
Our award-winning practice was established by Robert Fraser and Janice Fraser in 2008 and is founded upon 24 years’ experience of design and procurement across the Outer Hebrides. We have a deep understanding of the area, its social and cultural identity, climate and environment. We have a wealth of knowledge in the application of renewables and low carbon technologies - our approach is innovative and bespoke but starts from our understanding of what works in an exposed coastal location.
We thrive on the fresh challenge of each new project and have a very diverse project portfolio which reflects the collective skills of our small team. We offer a full range of Architect's services, tailored to suit the specific project requirements. We use the RIBA Plan of Work 2020 as our framework - the definitive UK model for the building design and construction process.
While our approach to design is contemporary, we are experienced in the practicalities and aesthetics of working with traditional and historic buildings and have a successful track record in Listed Building projects.
Based full-time in North Uist, we are ideally placed to provide a high quality service to local projects in the Uists and Barra, as well as to those throughout the Western Isles and West Highlands.
